✦ THE SAGA OF KAALAS ✦
Before time was measured by mortal heartbeats, there was only the infinite, chaotic expanse of the Primordial Loom. In this quiet abyss, Aethel, the Weaver of Light and Order, wove the brilliant tapestry of Aethelgaard, anchoring its northern heart in the vast continent of Kaalas with the legendary Prime Pillar. From her divine essence sprang six elemental powers—Terras of the deep stone, Ignis-Vael of the volcano heart, Vela-Kael of the glacial ice, Sylph of the storm gales, Sszith of the swamp venom, and Lunaris of the moonlight and silver watch—who together nurtured the seven mortal ancestries: Humans, winged Atavians, fox-folk Kitsune, reptilian Sythrak, lunar Rakash, magic-null Mul gladiators, and sapient Mycelian fungal colonies.
Yet, this enduring creation drew the wrath of Nihil, the Devourer of the Void, who sought to dissolve all reality back into silent entropy. In the catastrophic clash of the First War, void-spawn shattered the Prime Pillar. Terras sacrificed his physical body to anchor the bedrock of Kaalas, and Aethel performed the ultimate sacrifice—shattering her own divine form to forge the Aegis, a shimmering cosmic barrier of starlight sealing the Void out. Remnants of her divine light linger in the sky as Aethel's Ribbons, the neon auroras wrapping the northern night.
Over five millennia, great epochs shaped the world. The ancient Architect Empire excavated subterranean Arcanium channels and built floating sanctums before vanishing. In Epoch IV (~Year 3500), Ignis-Vael exploded in volcanic grief from void leaks, shattering southern Kaalas into the fiery Ashen Chain before being bound beneath elemental seals. Centuries later in Epoch V (~Year 4800), the scholar Caelum Voss misinterpreted prophetic lunar dreams sent by Lunaris, accidentally opening the catastrophic rift known as the Veil's Tear in the frozen northern tundra.
Beneath the frozen surface, the Architects spent centuries carving the cavernous networks of the Gilded Deeps and the sunken metropolis of Oros. Tapping into raw veins of volatile Arcanium ore, they constructed subterranean energy pylons and elemental conduits to power their cities. To endure the blistering magical radiation of the deepest mines, the magic-null Mul lineage was bred—relentless gladiator miners severed from the weave of magic whose physical dominance and iron hides allowed them to survive where others perished. When cataclysmic Arcanium overloads flooded Oros beneath boiling depths, the survivors retreated upward into the cavern networks, leaving behind sunken vaults overflowing with forgotten relics and ancient spell-scrolls.
As the eras unfolded, distinct mortal orders rose to maintain the fragile balance. High in mountain observatories, the Keepers of the Watch studied the lunar tides under the guidance of Lunaris, while down in the tundra, King Malakor's Frostguard held the snowbound passes against creeping corruption. In the shadows, cabals like the Nine-Tailed Syndicate traded forbidden secrets, and fanatical cultists of the Void Prime worshipped entropy itself, seeking to embrace collapse. Whenever catastrophic shifts neared, scholars recorded sightings of the cosmic White Raven—a divine messenger of Lunaris soaring through the boreal canopy as a harbinger of doom or salvation.
Now, in the Year 5000, the Aegis is fraying. Aethel's Ribbons burn with a chaotic, bleeding purple as void incursions manifest across the continent. King Malakor, ruler of the Northern Reach, has fortified the northern passes with his elite Frostguard after receiving warnings from Lunaris. Erratic cosmic magic shifts the permafrost, mutating wild beasts, raising skeletal prospectors in the bioluminescent Gilded Deeps, and threatening the sunken ruins of ancient Architect cities, while high above, the silent golden Sovereign Sanctum floats locked and ominous.
You arrive at Ravenwatch Hold, a rugged frontier stronghold at the edge of the Boreal Reach, as a defender of the last bastion of mortal life. Guided by the weary Mayor Aldous, the secret cabals of the Nine-Tailed Syndicate, and the vigilant white ravens of Lunaris, you must master your class, hunt for legendary affix gear, and venture across the seven zones to seal the rift. Every strike, every spell cast, and every dynamic alliance is a thread woven to preserve Aethelgaard, turning your survival into the final legend of Kaalas.
